What is Mountains of the Moon Marathon

Organized by the TMR Foundation, the Mountains of the Moon Marathon inaugural edition will be held in Fort Portal under the theme “Mama: Re-imagine Maternal Experience”.

Located in Western Uganda, the Rwenzori Mountains, or Mountains of the Moon, as they are fondly called, are a big tourist attraction. Beyond their unique flora and fauna, they also o er thrill-seekers incredibly beautiful and varied hiking trails.

Fort Portal City being Uganda’s Tourism City, and also being situated at the base of the Rwenzori Mountains in the greater Tooro kingdom, made it a natural fit to host the inaugural Mountains of the Moon Marathon.

The Mountains of the Moon marathon will feature a standard 42 km marathon, 21 km half marathon and 10 km road race. This year’s edition is aimed at raising awareness about maternal health issues in a bid to curb maternal deaths resulting from lack of basic maternity requirements like Mama kits.
